As of my last update in April 2024, human rabies cases in Ontario and Canada overall are extremely rare. However, I don't have access to the most current statistics, so I'll provide the general information I'm confident about:

Canada, including Ontario, has very few human rabies cases due to effective animal control and vaccination programs.

Most years, there are no human rabies cases reported in Ontario or Canada as a whole.

When human cases do occur, they are often linked to bats, which are harder to control than domestic animals.

The last confirmed human rabies death in Ontario that I'm certain about occurred in 2012, involving a man who had contact with a bat.

Public health authorities in Ontario and Canada maintain vigilant surveillance and prevention programs to keep rabies cases low.

To get the most up-to-date and accurate statistics on human rabies cases in Ontario, I would recommend checking with official sources such as:

  • Public Health Ontario
  • Ontario Ministry of Health
  • Public Health Agency of Canada

These organizations would have the most current data on any recent cases if any have occurred since my last update.

Would you like me to elaborate on any aspect of rabies prevention or control measures in Ontario?
